Synopsis
The story of EGYPTOMANIA! begins where it could
only have begun-in the land of Pharaohs.
Akhenaten, the ‘heretic Pharaoh’ of the 18th Dynasty, husband to Queen Nefertiti and father of both
Tutankhamun and Tutankhamun’s wife and half sister, Ankhesenamun, had decimated his country with his reforms of monotheism, neglect of foreign policy and failure in meeting the needs of his starving people.

Taking the throne at nine years of age, following the death of his father, Akhenaten, young Tutankhamun was handled by several advisers and his Grand Vizier, Ay and General of the Armies, Horemheb.
​
The power struggle between AY and Horemheb sets the backdrop for the shock that the 19 year old King Tutankhamun has just died. Ay, seizes the opportunity to become the new, all powerful Pharaoh, while despising Tutankhamun in his final moments, for possessing the same heretic blood as his father.

'AY’s Lament' begins the journey to what will be the greatest archaeological discovery of the twentieth century.
A journey to unravel a mystery, undertaken with relentless perseverance by Howard Carter, his financial sponsor, Lord Carnarvon (5th Earl of Carnarvon) and Carnarvon’s spirited adult daughter, Lady Evelyn Carnarvon.

EGYPTOMANIA! weaves an historical based account of the biggest archaeological adventure in modern history, with drama, humor and supernatural action.

When the day arrived, finally, of the discovery of the sealed chambers of the tomb, Carter could not be constrained. As Carnarvon and other observers looked on, Carter drilled a small hole in the top corner of the doorway and placed a candle inside. As the candle flickered its eerie glow, Carter peered in.
As his eyes grew accustomed to the darkness beyond, he heard Carnarvon asking: “Can you see anything?”
“Yes!,” Carter replied.
“Wonderful things. Wonderful things!”
